How to Review Search and Social Metadata

Write and inspect titles, descriptions, canonicals, Open Graph tags, and search-result previews.

Write for the destination

A title and description should identify the page accurately and distinguish it from nearby pages. Search engines may rewrite snippets, so treat previews as useful approximations rather than guaranteed layouts.

Align canonical and social URLs

The canonical URL, Open Graph URL, and share destination should normally describe the same public page. Use absolute HTTPS image URLs and an image suitable for the platform crop. Missing dimensions can delay or destabilize previews.

Verify the published response

Inspect the server-rendered HTML, not just a content-management preview. Confirm one clear title, one canonical, an indexable status, and consistent Open Graph and Twitter fields. Platform caches may need their official debugging tools after an update.
