How to Prepare Favicons, ICO Files and Web Colors
Create a consistent website icon set and translate colors between HEX, RGB, and HSL values.
Build favicons from a simple source
Start with a square, high-resolution mark that remains recognizable at 16 or 32 pixels. Fine lettering and thin lines disappear at tab size. Inspect every generated size rather than assuming a scaled logo will remain clear.
Provide modern and fallback files
Browsers can use PNG, SVG, ICO, and manifest icons in different contexts. An ICO containing common small sizes remains a useful fallback. Reference icons with explicit link elements and keep paths stable so bookmarks do not lose them.
Choose accessible colors
A sampled hex value is only a starting point. Test foreground and background combinations for contrast, focus states, light and dark themes, and color-vision differences. Do not rely on color alone to communicate status.
