How to Merge, Split, Rotate and Number PDF Pages

Plan common PDF page operations while preserving order, readability, and an untouched source copy.

Work from clean originals

Save source PDFs before merging, splitting, rotating, or numbering pages. Confirm the desired order and page ranges in advance; displayed page labels can differ from the file's physical page positions.

Make one controlled pass

Arrange files and pages, apply rotation, then add page numbers after the final order is known. Check mixed portrait and landscape pages, blank pages, bookmarks, forms, and signatures because structural edits can affect them.

Review the finished document

Open the output independently and inspect the first, middle, and last pages plus every transition between source files. Verify text selection, links, print margins, and file size before replacing or distributing an original.
