How to Generate and Print Reliable Barcodes
Choose a barcode format, prepare valid data, size output, and test printed labels before operational use.
Match the symbology to the job
Code 128 works well for general alphanumeric identifiers. UPC and EAN formats follow retail numbering rules and require correctly assigned digits. A generator can draw a code, but it cannot register a retail product number for you.
Preserve print quality
Keep the quiet zones, bars, and background unobstructed. Do not resize an exported image unevenly. Printers, label stock, glare, and ink spread all affect results, so test at the intended dimensions with the scanners used in production.
Validate the encoded value
Scan sample labels back into a plain-text field and compare the full value. Confirm check digits where the format uses them, and keep human-readable text beneath the bars so damaged labels can still be identified.
